Mine also started groaning yesterday under load. Think it might be the hanger, as it only started after I went lie-down. Don't have any proper tools here so just going to have to make do with whatever I can find here

Did a 30km ride yesterday and low and behold....no creaking!

But I am not sure if its due to me again removing the BB and wiping it spotless and putting it back in 'dry' or because I stripped the crank right down and cleaned and greased up all nuts and bolts as well as all surfaces that are metal on metal.

 

I will try and get another GXP bearing though as I am pretty sure this is where the issue is and as Johan points out at least I will have a spare. Got a feeling I got a dud as things like this always happen to me!

 

Am also going to get a friend to turn some pieces of metal for me and make my own press-fit press as I am not paying a fortune for something I should (in my opinion anyway) only be using once a year or so. I also read that old metal electrical conduit, cut to length and then 'slits' made in the end so it fans out will work as a removal tool, that should also save a good few Rands as well.
