How to soften the ride on a manitou sherman

How do you soften the coil on a manitou sherman breakout plus fork? I know you can get a new softer coil, but cant seem to find one. What other coils would fit in a manitou 170mm travel? A fox or rock shox DH fork?

What is the total lenght and diameter of the spring? I might be able to help you..... Got a 36 coil and a lyric coil

Thanks, ill go measure it tomorrow. Will let u know. Hopefully they are all the same width. I am a light weight and at the moment i am just bouncing around the bike

In addition to the length, coil diameter and wire section (thickness), you also need to know how many turns there are in the spring.

 

Those four things determine how hard or soft the spring feels.

 

It is pretty easy to make up a new spring and I'm sure there are some spring manufacturers in Cape Town. The problem lies in determining just how much softer you want it. Usually people estimate between 10 and 20% and that ends up being too much. Start with 6% or so.

With zero preload adjustment on the fork how much sag do you have?

I only have about 10mm sag. I only get half way of bottoming the fork out. Almost feels like a rigid.

Think it would be easier to buy a fork of chain instead of trying to setup the forks coil.
