First time doing things race and will only be doing the 72km....

Not really familiar with the route or the roads out there, is this a "hilly" race? Any surprises? Cant seem to find a route profile for 2013 race.

I can recall the Voor-Paardeberg from the Engen: Wellington race last year. Is this correct? thumbup1.gif

Not really hilly, only lots of rollers, and then also the SE to contend with.

Do a Map my Ride following the route description. You'll then be able to better guage the amount of climbing involved.

I'm a first-timer for this race too. Enjoy climbing so hills don't concern me. Quite a few races coming up in the next 9wks, salivating at the prospect!

Starting to enjoy the rollers as well now with fitness getting up there, just read that there was a pass on the 2012 route and wondering if it was part of it.

Wannabe - any of this route part of the Burger?

Yes, a portion of the last section (R44) from Windmill / Windmeul till where you turn left again towards Paarl (past the Cheese Farm on the left)

If you're racing the long route (126 kms) it would be good to roll long on your training rides.

There are a few short climbs and mostly rollers.

Means I'm in for a bit of suffering. No chance of me rolling long on training rides now, as I'll be away this coming weekend, doing driving duty for friends riding the Attakwas. As of yet have done very few 100km rides in preparation for the Fun Ride.

Yeah, Wannabe. The longest Summer race.

Two rides in one day can also boost your endurance.

Surely not...you have enough miles on the legs. How was the 99er Recce route this weekend?

two rides - what distance per ride?

And possibly the heat too - Paarl can cook. Often if the Southeaster isn't blowing, then the temperature goes skyhigh and that saps the energy.
