@Gary: Thank you for registering! ... Just for info ... the Registry was started about 3 years ago in response to two of my fellow cyclists being bike jacked ... I spent some time with SAPS forums after the event and discovered that law enforcement has a big problem when it comes to prosecuting perpetrators of bike theft [by any means] ... proof of ownership is in most cases not possible. In addition in cases where suspected stolen bikes were recovered [e.g. crossing our borders] there is no system to locate the owner. I thus started the Registry [by cyclists for cyclists] just after this event. It proved itself when two bikes were recovered and traced [near Diepsloot] just over a year ago. The Registry is operated similar to motorized vehicle registration. If indeed the message does go out that stolen bikes can be traced we may well neutralize some of the motivation to steal ... and if this prevents even one bike jacking then I've achieved what I set out to do.

I note comments further down the list of concerns about information safety ... this is a topic very close to our core ... we do not share any personal info with anyone. We have purposefully not involved any corporate entity [and we have been approached] ... the Registry stands by its founding ethic ... for cyclists by cyclists.

If further info is required about the Registry, welcome to drop us a mail at www.bicycleregistry.co.za.

Safe cycling!

Will.
