Bikes in the back and the rest of the mates all in a second car.

 

Split petrol money for the 2 vehicles between all 5 mates.

+1 on this option...............as you dont want to end up making some "plan" or make shift rack resulting in 4 or 5 bikes mangled on the tar (goed koop is deur koop)

what you can do with a roof rack - peter sagan style - very east rand :-D

 

 

Now that addresses my issue with roof racks! not because I'm worried I will take my bike out but because the only thing I want to lift after a hard ride is a cold one and not my bike...

I had just finished designing (basic design) the brackets to do this for my bakkie when I managed to score a canopy so I have scrapped this idea. It is really awesome just dont want to take the canopy off again and dont want bikes ontop of the canopy.
