Measuring a new chain

So im building an old Boulder form 8 to 9spd.... i have grip fits and medium cage Sram derailure. my question is how do i measure what length of chain i need?

 

i have lost the 8spd chain and bot sure how to set it up, what are the steps to get the correct length?

K, thanks! will put new chain in tomorrow. just need new cassette. got the wrong one.
