Hi,

 

 

 

I did a search of the forum and didn't find a answer so I'm posting.

 

 

 

I'm looking for a CO2 inflator adapter that works off the unthreaded co2 cartriges, these are the same co2 cartriges that one puts in bb/pellet guns.

 

 

 

My logic is that the bb co2 cartriges cost R7 each up the road while the threaded co2 cartriges cost R17, R20 or R25 in the cycle shops.

 

 

 

I tired a few cycle shops but all they have is the threaded type.

 

 

 

Anyone know where in joburg to find these?

 

 

 

BTW I'm using a road bike (7bar), so 12mg co2 cartriges will do from what I'm told.

Top Peak have an unthreaded bomb version which can also take threaded and doubles as a pump , unfortunately as far as i know it only works with 16g.

Thanks. Checked the site and the only thing they have that allow you plug co2 cartriges into are pellet guys :)

 

 

 

Maybe having co2 cartridge on the road is a good idea, you can use it to inflate a tyre and then use it to shoot any bugger trying to rob you :) hehe...applezunepod2008-02-06 03:27:08

I got one that works vir Un-threaded CO2 bOMBS BOTH 12G and the 16gram. It's red and black, dunno what brand it is, bought it wat Willie's a year or so back. I'm pretty sure you can still find some. Will do a search to find out what I have, gimmy a few secs..

Maybe they don't know what they talking about. Maybe it's best to go into the shops and have a look around yourself, some BkeSHOP PPL are so damn clueless.

Found some by phoning more people.

 

 

 

The problem I see now is that I can get a threadless adaptor for between R185 and R299 while a treaded adaptor starts at about R50.

 

 

 

Suddendly saving money on the R7 threadless vs R17 theaded co2 cartrigde doesn't seem that much.

 

 

 

Only after 11 co2 cartridges does the threadless co2 cartridge setup (price of adaptor + 11 cos cartridges) start being cheaper on the long run. From what I've seen the threaded adapters are smaller than the threaded ones which require a cartridges cover.

 

 

 

What do you guys think?

Unless you gonna use cartridges to do general inflation as well as repairs on training rides, how many does one need? I always make sure that I have 2 available at any time for racing. Also carry a pump cause if those are used up so much time has been lost that it doesn't matter how long the 3rd, 4th ..... nth repair takes! 

 

I have probably only ever used 1 or 2 in a race for a puncture repair. Having said that I have also used a 'few' when getting frustrated with the inflation of tubeless conversions (don't even go to the 'it freezes the goop' stories cause I aint hearing it!).

I've been riding for a few months and do about a short 9km morning ride on some quiet roads in my area. Haven't had a problem until this last week where I had a puncture on two days. Lucky I was on my was back home so didn't have to push very far.

 

 

 

I've realised that I probably got these punctures from underinflating the wheels, and had pinch punctures from all the new holes in the road due to all the rain.

 

 

 

Got a floor pump now as the little hand pump just doesn't (or maybe I couldn't) get 7 bar. Also got a saddle bag for the patch kit that I never took with me.

 

 

 

So I'll use the co2 for flats on the road and the floor pump normally. Also right now I don't ride very far so maybe going the threaded route is ok.
