Is Klapperkop safe to do alone during the week? I am referring to the trails, not the tar road......Any hubbers riding there during the week? Mornings or afternoons?

Thanks

I've heard some dodgy stories- I have stopped risking it on my own.

Was the dodgy stories recent? Would love to do the trails during the week, but unfortunately a lady cycling alone is a bit of a soft target so I don't want to take the risk if there is the area is known for trouble

Vis, when do you want to ride there? You can always just request a 'group ride' or 'buddy needed' :)

Vis (?) funny...

I have a training buddy for weekends, during the week I like to focus on my own pace / heart rate. Just not easy finding places safe enough to ride alone. Klapperkop appeals to me since I have a 10km commute to get there and can then play around on the trails before heading home on the boring sidewalks and roads. Although, as I mentioned, not worth taking risks.

To be honest, I haven't heard any in a while, but at one stage everything from there to fountains was risky- somebody was even mugged inside fountains.

I agree with Riaan, find some friends, no matter how busy the trails- a mugging doesn't take long.

Guess you are right, only need a minute or two for mugging. Thanks.

I commute over KK every couple of days (from Garsfontein to Queenswood) - it's a great break from the normal route. There's also many options on KK, from tar to the two different trail sides ... South side trail, going down, is fairly busy every day. North side (where there's more trees and bush) not so much, depending on time of year. But there's pretty much always someone there.

Was there yesterday and although I didn't go down the trails I saw a couple of mtb and walkers on the trails. Think it is fair to give it a try next week and decide if I feel safe or not. Thanks

I ride reg there on my own and with mates, one thing is for sure there are way more SAPS riding around there than at Groen or Fount or Voort......... just saying.

Tx everybody. It doesn't seem that KK is any less safe than other places to ride during the week.

RexF - I always carry pepper spray with me, and have a brown belt in karate, so at least I am not completely helpless :whistling:

See you all on the trails sometime!
