Won't the VXI Element be a bit hot for SA conditions?

From what I understand, the shoe is intended for comfort in extreme conditions such as rain/snow/ice/mud.

Won't the standard VXI be better suited to our climate?

I read up before I bought and it said a bit of extra warmth. It seems the water resistance is the real factor which makes this better suited for all-round conditions.

I myself haven't noticed any extra heat while wearing them.

Thanks for the feedback. Just pulled the trigger on a pair. I will only use them for shorter rides (less than 50km) anyway, so I don't think that heat will be a problem anyway. In addition to that I think that the elements will be very user friendly in the cleaning department, as you will be able to clean them with a damp cloth. I can only imagine that the suede like outer of the standard freerider might be harder to clean.

Going to use them with Saint pedals. Cannot wait!!

Aaaah pedals! I still need to decide Saint, Nukeproof Electrons or superstar components. Leaning towards superstar purely because I can go with bling pedals to Match other bling parts already waiting for my build.

Are all of you guys getting them from over the sea? I see Mountain mil order has them for R1250,00

Pulled the trigger and ordered a pair from mountain mail order at my ladies expense

Ordered 10 minutes ago and should arrive on Monday

So after seeing pics of Nofearnofuns, it seems Mountain Mail order has the pic and detailed description wrong on their Freerider VXi's.

They use the pic and description from the Elements, but what they're actually selling is the regular VXi.

Still awesome pricing though and worth it, but just letting you peeps know in case your heart is set on the Elements.

Freerider VXi's

Yesterday I received my first ever pair of 5/10's. Still awaiting decent flat pedals I was itching to try my shoes out so I went digging in my box. I found my old BMX flats which are almost completely smooth from the abuse they took in the years.

THEY ARE FREAKIN AWESOME!

I did a 60km ride on Saturday. The ride had 1600m of climbing and I traversed very rough terrain. The shoes are awesome and I did not once feel like I was missing my spd shoe/pedal combo. And I am so much more relaxed and loose on the bike during technical sections, it really feels like my body and bike are in phase with each other. When I was riding cleated if really felt like the bike had no other choice but to follow where your hands and feet go.

I still think that I will opt for spd's during marathons and XCO races, but for general trail and all mountain riding, I am going to stick with flats.

Which would you choose for riding with flats??

Alternativly, Where can i get 5 10s in Durban?????.

Or anywhere cheaper that will post??

Out of those 4, I would say anything except the Hellcats are great for flat riding.

I have a derivative of each of the other 3 and this is what I can say.

Impacts (incl. Sam Hills and Karvers): Grip well. Last Long. Bulky

Freeriders (incl. Danny MaCaskills and Red Barrons): Grip well. Sole allows for a little more feel than impacts. Not the longest lasting, but comfy great shoes.

VXi's: Grip well when weight is on the pedals (take some getting used to if one has had other FiveTens). Comfy fit. Sole seems to be holding up well.

As for where to get them. All my pairs have come from CRC, but www.mountainmailorder.co.za has some good pricing for a local shop.
