Got lost twice. Ended up doing 125km. Lack of marshals at important turnoffs. On the upside, got good prep for the One Tonner. No finish line in stellenbosch? Let me just say it was an interesting experience.

It's sad that the event turned out this way, but glad that everybody's safe. It's awkward when you are in racing mentality but still have to stop at traffic lights and stop streets because there is either no marshals or lazy ones.

Also glad I had some good company along the way. Without any marshals assisting with directions I definitely would have gone lost.

I heard for some reason the cyclist doing the 75km route ended up doing 89km?

Don't think this event will see me again.

It is sad because we need the events. I love guys who put on events and always have respect because I know it's incredibly hard work and you can't please everyone. So I'm always happy to forgive a few issues along the way and 'go with the flow'.

But yesterday was ridiculous and a shambles. If you decide to go ahead with a race even though you know you've been dropped by the traffic department and/or are struggling with marshals and logistical issues, then you deserve to take the flack.

There were no marshals at key junctions (everyone I spoke to afterwards took a wrong turn at some point), no water points, no finish line?! and nothing to even drink at the end. I did 120km instead of the advertised 115km and I would have gone even more wrong if I had not been in a bunch. And stopping and starting at robots - that's not a race. Then the route back to Stellenbosch took us all the way around and through the city centre on a public holiday with no closed roads?! Chaos.

My wife did the 75km which is a big distance for her and she ended up doing 89km!! That's not cool when she was at her limit to get through 75. We also met a very upset woman in the parking lot about 2 hours after we had finished who was still looking for her husband. He was in the 75km and hadn't finished yet! It was only his 5th event ever and they weren't from the area so didn't know Stellenbosch at all. So I really hope they found each other and he got back OK.

Makes you appreciate the organisation of other races where a missing marshal is an exception rather than the rule. You won't see me anywhere near this race again.

Yes, was an intresting morning. Also had to dodge some pedestrians at intersections with the marhall telling me to turn right but pointing the flag LEFT??

However still enjoyed my ride.

On a lighter note...When will the race times be available? Hopefully I crossed the non existent finish line

I did the 45 km and had no problem with directions....I'm not from the area.

When I came to an intersection I made sure to catch the marshals eye and communicate which direction.

The non exsistant finishing line was an anti climax. I will do this one again tho.

Where and when do we get the official times?

I also did the 45km. There was marshalls at the right places, and I was waved though by all the officials. There was a waterpoint - I feel it could have been good if there was another earlier. I agree however that the finish could have been better marked.

Lastly.... I do feel that a bit later start might result in a bit better turnout, although in all fairness the weather was crap at the start.

did anyone get their race results back for this one?

No, write this down as the worst race of your life. Cant get any worse. I should have known when I went to register and we got no goodie bags, and paper numbers. Printed on a4 paper, with rain predicted. I should have walked away then, rocked up the next morning, saw about 10 people on the starting line, should have walked away then. Point being it was a *** race start to finish, *** route, no marshalling or waterpoints or any route management. It was the worst race and ride of my life. I feared for my life, dodging taxis on a road with no yellow line or shoulder, on a Public holiday after most people had a piss up before braai day. Shocking, you guys should be ashamed. Put peoples at risk for your own pocket. Massive dissaster.

I'm just having a laugh. But seriously though, No goodie bag? That doesn't really matter does it? I 100% understand the rest of your complaints though. I really do. I agree, it sounds like it was a really badly organized race. But is a goodie bag the only reason you race?
