So due to timing this thread will probably be lost amongst weekend banter, but I need some advice from the gurus here!

I may be signing myself in for some tubeless road wheels, thanks to a little incident on our marvellously maintained roads.

The reason for tubeless is an easy one - cost. Can't really afford an expensive wheelset and looking at a great deal on some carbon tubeless wheels.

What do you carry on your tubeless wheel rides? How do you manage a flat when you're out in the sticks?

How often do you pick up punctures? (I know that's like how long is a piece of string but considering most road punctures are pinch flats?)

Does any sealant out there work for road tyres?

And convenient tips? Tricks?

And lastly, feel free to add any sentiments you have regarding tubeless... I'm part of the millions riding clinchers and scared of the possibilities!

Thanks in advance!

I have never, not even once, had a pinch flat on the road. I run gators at 8 bar.

All my flats (including one today) have been glass related.

Oh, and you could always buy the cheap wheels and run them with tubes until you sort out your tyres.

I have been running the Hutchinson tubeless (from CRC) for almost 10 months with one flat. Used a Stan's conversion kit to convert my standard rims.

It's quite a fight to get the rims onto the rim and even harder to get the tire to seal on the rim. I use a fitting connected to my diving cylinder.

The tires lose air (even with slime) and I need to check the pressure weekly. Otherwise all good

I have been riding Scwalbe Ultremo zx tubeless tyres on Ksyrium elites for a while now. No punctures yet. Not that difficult to get onto the rims and no problems seating. Run them at relative low pressure and they still rolls incredibly fast and smooth.

I have been using tubeless tyres for more than a year. Had two punctures and one was cut open by big glass, so had to ride home with low pressure. Second one was also cut open, so I just put patch under the hole and put tube in. No problem..

Tubeless is not cheap because tubless tyres go for R650 each and also it is very hard to get them.
