You will find it in the road traffic act.

I was forced of the road Sturday morning by a driver in a blue 3series BMW reg. CL46447, on my way back home between Simonsig and the railway, Cape Town. A quiet tarred road leading towards Bottelary road, but with no yellow shoulder. I instantly gave the driver the 'bird' and he kindly returned it in his rear view mirror, he then pulled off and we got into an argument. He saying that we(cyclists) don't belong on the road and me saying, we have all the right to be there...He also admitted in the heat of the moment that he almost knocked over 2 other cyclist on the same road and that he wants to put a sticker in his back window saying, F..the cyclists. I reported this incident to the police, but were told because there were no injuries or damage I am basically wasting my time, they did however gave me the address of the owner of the BMW, Die Rand, Dan Pienaarstraat, Stellenbosch.

Any suggestions of what to do????

I think you should still lay a case. If this idiot does kill or injure someone, this should hopefully show that this is a habitual practice, as an aggravating factor (in court).

You are allowed an all national roads, except where it is posted that you may not ride there, notably freeways.

Should at least break his jaw

I find that the macho pricks who seeks confrontation with the cyclists and actually stop and jump out of their cars are totally on their back foot when you don't give them the chance to confront you first. As soon as he jumps out of his car start to take him on (not talking physically)

Post him a 1.5 m cyclist gap sticker with love

together with a set of photographs of bikes that was involved with accidents and a list of cyclists that died while using the road. This is REAL! I am being forced by my wife to stay off the roads nowadays.

Until he becomes a cyclist, he will not identify with our plight to share the roads safely.

In the same situation, I'd post him a family photo with a cryptic "you tried to kill a father / mother / brother... today". Maybe he can at least try to identify with the fact that we're human, just like him.

I know it won't help with this specific situation - but riding in the UK last month, I was quite shocked by how badly some of the drivers there treated cyclists. The bad cases were almost always around morning or evening rush hour, and what were clearly guys commuting to/from work, or delivery vans. Speeds were insane though, on narrow twisty lanes. I actually found myself wishing I was back here cycling quite a few times.

It's easy to think we have the worst drivers on the road, and give up riding, but it's not just us suffering idiots like this - it does happen elsewhere, and it is just as bad if not worse.
