I installed some 29x2.4 X-Kings (Folding, non-protection) onto a Giant XTC project bike, which I subsequently sold after 2 rides.

The radial clearance of rear tyre to front derailleur was around 6-8mm, which is not huge, but didn't give any trouble on the rides I did.

I heard from the buyer today that he cannot ride the bike because the tyre is touching the derailleur now. Is it possible that the tyre has stretched this much?

My only other thought is that the wheel is not in the dropouts properly.

Any ideas?

It worked perfectly like this...

FD may have taken a knock and be out of alignment, or the wheel may be out of true or skew in the dropout as you suggested. Not really much way of knowing without seeing it - did he say where it's rubbing?

Apparently on the derailleur, but at the ourter diameter of the tyre.

I see on the Giant site, the bike comes with a high clamp derailleur. Do these take up less space?

That's probably the problem solved right there!

The high clamp pivot point and bracket is less bulky and out of the way of the tire than the low clamp.

Turn the Derailleur slightly outward. This may solve the issue. I had a similar problem. Only happened on small chainring. Is it possible that you only rode it on the middle chjainring? That could be why you never noticed it.
