Clipless pedals breaking

I am new to cycling and bought clipless pedals the other day for th efirst time.

While loosening the tension on the one pedal the bolt broke cleanly in half. I had no problem with the other pedal. I wasn't forcing it while turning.

Did I have a dud pedal or is it possible to break them by over-loosening - if so, it seems quite an easy thing to do? Are you only meant turn it once or twice?

What pedals are they? Shimano or something else? Model number? Pics if possible?

Hi, the brand is BBB.

I don't them with me to check the exact model, but they are either BPD-05 or 06.

 

I've attached pictures of those two.

 

I bought them new, so will probably take them back and see what they say. I am trying to figure out if I should be asking for a replacement or if I am at fault.

if you were loosening the tension then I would say clear replacement. If you overtightened the perhaps different storey. Ask for your cash back and get some shimano or look pedals

I do agree get some look or shimano pedals, quality and they last

Yeah Shimano is the way forward, reliable as fudge!

Thanks for the advice. Will see about getting my money back and buying a pair of better quality pedals.
