The hub manufacturers don't make the bearings so if the stainless ones don't last put in better/more suitable  ones.  It is not easy to compare across hub brands because the designs are different.  Even within brands comparisons are not easy.  The older Pro 2 QR hubs are different animals to the Pro 2 Evo.

My Circus Monkey front with a tiny 699 bearing is not going to last as well as as my Campy front hub with a 6000 bearing.  (It will however last longed as I only ride races on that wheel).

Some hubs are designed to take a range of axle sizes and the bearing diameter/ball size etc also plays a role in the bearing's life.

That said no one I know buys a hub based on the bearing specs.  Purchases are made on weight, looks and anecdotal reviews.

Currently got a 4 or 5 year old set of Pro 2 Evo's and they haven't had any work done at all and they are still perfect.

Also got Pro 4's and so far very happy.

DT Swiss may not make the world's best shocks and forks but I have had no issues with their 240 or 350 hubs. Well designed, easy to maintain, work well and good milage on the bearings. Definitely not cheese.
