I think I have found the answer....well 2 options:

 

1. Get a SS - that forces you to stand to get more power down.

 

2. Get a DH bike (a heave one, about 1/3 your weight), put the seat all the way down and go ride that thing around your normal trails (so not just down the hills). There is almost no way you can stay seated while pedalling.

 

(Take away the luxury, and you will learn fast!)

work on your core - it will help you to get out of the saddle and have power to kick when doing so!

do some running ;)

and to answer your question:

  • slow down the cadence when pedalling whilst standing
  • Use your body weight to push down on the pedals
  • pull on the opposite handle bar when pushing on the pedals
  • Lean forward - over the handle bars so you can kick back at the pedals
