mtbmaranata Posted November 6, 2013 Share Thank you I do have Conti'e on one set of rims and Maxxis on the other. Just thought at better rolling tyres as 700 odd km will be tar.
Shebeen Posted November 6, 2013 Share If by dirt you mean provincial roads, then all of the above are silly options. (I used maxxiss larssen TT wirebead when I rode across the country, but that was only 180km of tar) loads of resources out there....http://travellingtwo.com/resources/tires

Jakkals. Posted November 6, 2013 Share This is what I used, traveling from Kenya to Tanzania. Great allrounder for touring, not so great in mud and sandy roads, but dirt roads was fine. Just thought at better rolling tyres as 700 odd km will be tar.Conti race kings UST version is a great option....for a couple of reasons that the others also have(saguero and crossmark) They have a great rolling pattern...sure they are not slicks but they are damn close and gives you some confidence on loose pack commonly found on district roads whilst rolling well on smooth tar. They are super tough...they won't puncture easily and sidewall cuts are not going to happen...weight is the penalty though but a small price considering you not racing, you are riding and will have peace of mind. They are available locally in various sizes, in various shops at competitive prices. You will be able to seat the bead with a tubeless conversion with a footpump or bomb...kinda handy if you are in the middle of nowhere without access to a compressor or fuel station
Ohmsie Posted November 6, 2013 Share try Onza Canis (C3RC2). Nice tyre and tough!
Shebeen Posted November 6, 2013 Share Qualify pls....The topic heading is 'Touring tyre',Touring is ALL about rolling resistance. Puncture resistance is also a factor, but you get much better compromises of the two. (I've ridden a touring bike from vancouver to the yukon, so know a thing or two.) look at what Anton rode from kenya or the ones in the link i posted, and then compare to these. http://www.maxxis.com/Repository/Images/crossmark.jpgcrossmark http://www.bicycletires.com/imagesLarge/gfsgt4-1.jpgsaguaro dunno if these will even survive all that tar when loaded up. The options on your link looks good on paper, but we don't ride on paper now do we? Rolling resistance is one of the things to consider...and imo, when touring, not the most important one.
