I recently found out my (left - rear) brake lever (Shimano BR-M666) leaks at the reservoir.

I swopped the hydraulic hoses around & fitted new olives & bled both sides.

The left always felt a little bit more squishy, but I thought it's due to it being the rear brake.

Later after a bike wash I found some mineral oil leaking from the lever.

First I thought it was leaking from the olive's side. I found oil in the rubber that fits over the nut that screws into the reservoir.

* I put a spanner on, but it was fairly tight & I just gave it a little nip to make sure.

* Topped up the reservoir. (by opening up the cover & removing the membrane & putting it back (with rolling method that Hope recommends)

* Finally topped up at the bleed hole closed it all up.

I wasn't convinced the little nip I gave the nut would have made a difference, so I kept an eye on it.

After squeezing the the lever a couple times I was happy with the feel, but after a few rides however I felt the brake lever starting to become squishy again.

Had a closer look & I found it was leaking from underneath the lid.

I made sure to fit the membrane perfectly as well as the plastic plate before the metal plate goes on top of them.

I have downloaded the techdoc & found that I have put everything in the correct order.

The membrane isn't damaged (cuts etc)

Bottom line is - it leaks & I want to sort it out ASAP.

Am I missing something?

Are there such parts available locally? (membrane / separator plate )

Part number 4 in the techdoc

Thx for the reply droo.

Have phoned lbs & they said shimano only sells complete levers.

From 2014 they will be selling a left & right hand lever combo. Gotta love this country!

Will you perhaps be able to source something like that?

Even a 2nd hand (broken) lever 'unit' i can buy just for the 'inners'?
