But at what cost? The more complexity you introduce, the more you affect reliability, weight, financial cost etc.

I had all kinds of teething problems with my Di2 system on my roadbike. I like it so much that I kept at it and hopefully it is sorted now. Not sure that I could handle those types of setbacks on my MTB though. I like new tech and I like the idea, but I will give it another year (refer the SRAM hydrolic brake issue).
