Specialized Camber Carbon Comp???

Hi All

Im currently in the market for a dual suspension 29er with a carbon frame. I currently own a 2012 Scott Spark Team dual susser. I find the Scott to be a good bike with no issues at all, untill I rode the 2014 Spez Camber Comp last year as a test bike.

I had ten times more fun on the Spez and on the same trials I normally ride on with the Scott. I normally ride in the Ruimsig and Fourways areas with only a few races such as the Magalies monster and Silverstar MTB challenge, per year.

Is the Camber the best bike for R 40 000.00 or can you guys suggest a different ride? I had the below bikes on my short list.

1. Giant Anthem X 29er

2. Own built. Niner RIP 9 aluminium frame with a lefty shock, Fox Float CTD shock and existing American Classic wheel set with a lefty conversion. R48 500....too expensive.

3. Santa Cruz tallboy. Very cool but not in by budget.

4. Scott Genius 910. More trail orientated but should a hell of allot of fun to tide. More so than the spark?

Any suggestion or comment with reasons why, would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks

LOVE the Spez. I ride the Stumpy, as I want a little more fun. But the Camber was the only other bike I was gonna buy, and I rode them all, well at least 9 others. incl the Giant, Tall boy, Niner Jet and Genius. Camber beats them hands down.

You'll NEVER regret it!

Cool, I know exactly what you mean about the Spez.

I have the 2013 Camber carbon, absolutely love it. I took my girlfriend to the local school rugby fields to practice with her cleats, she keeps falling over. Grass has a soft landing. I rode with her for 5 minutes and got bored, eventually started riding down stairs jumping off walls and just playing around. Hugely capable bike.

Also have the 2013 model. Its an AWESOME bike. At this stage, wouldn't buy anything else. No way you can go wrong with that bike.

Im glad to hear that you guys like Spez camber so much. It seems to be the bike to have.

What are the other bikes you guys considered before purchasing the camber? Were they also bikes that are slightly more trail orientated?

I went into the bike shop with money in pocket to buy a Spez Epic. I then did a test ride on the Camber and the Epic, the camber instantly felt better than the Epic, more comfortable riding position and just felt right for me. Bought it straight away. Never regretted it since. My next bike will be the s-works camber version. Once I sold my organs on the black market.

  • 2 weeks later...

Everyone speaks well of the Niner bikes, but the problem is that I cant test ride a similar bike to see if I like it or not. Does anyone have any comments regarding Niner?
