SURVEY: Local version of something similar to strava/mapmyride/ridewithgps

Hi All

 

I am looking at creating a local version of something similar to strava/mapmyride/ridewithgps with some very unique features that I have not seen on any of these sites yet. At this point I am trying to ascertain what the interest would be in a local version of something like this before I pursue it further. If there are any specific features you would love to see in something like this please PM me and I can add them to the feature list if they add value.

Yes, follow the strava model where the base app is free...and a premium account upgrade will unlock some other functionality. The core of the app should be in the free version though...Some things that could be cool as additional

 

Is a top 10 rival list....who is the closest to you ito segments riden

I will be looking at a free and paid version if it is feasible. For the top 10 rival list would it be people you usually cycle with (Cycle Group e.t.c) or across all members?

I like this idea, will add it to the list. Could potentially look at adding some sort of SOS functionality if you have not moved location in a pre-defined time.

TBH - I get pretty much what I need from the existing offerings. The only part I've missed (and mentioned) to the likes of MapMyRide and others is the SOS type feature. So that could be of interest. There are also Bluetooth panic buttons available that could be used to trigger an alert too - stick one on handlebar or around neck/in pocket. Not sure how easy they are to get here in SA, but have seen them listed in US and UK. Live tracking is an absolute must for the sorts of rides I do - the worst part about live tracking is hit on battery life. So ability to reduce frequency of updates, and possibly only fire up the GPS when doing a position so it's not on all the time. Basically anything to keep the phone juice going.

Across all members but where our swords cross frequently...ie segments.

 

I like the panic feature and this could be an ideal "upgrade" feature which I will be willing to pay for

 

 

Now this feature could be epic...if you can nominate a target segment and have a virtual competitor that goes at a steady pace or time for the segment and you can see how far behind or ahead you are

You mean like the vetual rider on my garmin Edge ??

Kinda but linked to a segment, and there is the difference....so I browse and find a segment I want to go for and select virtual partner at 1 second faster than KOM and off I go, whilst I am bleeding through my eyeballs, the app will tell me I am x seconds in front or behind a KOM time...can't do that with your garmin.

I'm using Endomondo for live tracking (so my wife can see where I am and if I'm still moving). I then export and upload to Strava because most of my other friends use this (live tracking is available but premium version way too expensive), I do love the segments on Strava because I can use them to measure how fit I am and if there are improvements in my training (and its nice to have bragging rights every now and again). Panic button of sorts will be a very nice touch (maybe include as an option for the paid version).

 

Will be great if this solution works on most devices (Strava is not available for Windows Mobile the last time I checked).

My main aim is to target the core devices iPhone, Android and Windows Phone so this should cover the core devices.
