Is there anything I need to do when moving a tubeless tyre to a new rim? It's a Maxxis High Roller on a tubeless conversion rim. I'm not sure what sealant was used previously but I'm using Stans. Will I need to clean out the tyre and the rim and reseal?

Is the new rim a tubeless rim?

No, also a tubeless conversion. I'm removing the worn rear tyre and replacing it with the newer front tyre and then installing a brand new UST on the front. I'm just unsure if I need to clean the tyre and rim again before trying to reinstall it on the rear rim.

Is the new rim already converted to tubeless? If yes, just take the tyre of the old rim and if their is sealant left in the tyre leave it in. If their is little or no sealant left, just top up with Stans.

To seat the new tyre on the rim, just put it on and use a compressor to inflate it. The trick is to inflate the tyre at a rapid speed to let the tyre pop in to place.

If the air keeps on escaping on the sides, spray some sunlight liquid on the places were air is leaking out. You will also need valve adapter to convert the presta to a schredder valve to be able to use a compressor. If you are lucky you can try and inflate the tyre with a normal cycling pump

I agree pretty much. I would however clean/wash the tire out with soapy water and put in some fresh Stans. Maybe the Stans wont work so lekker if it's mixed with another sealant.

Thanks guys. Yeah, Hennie, I was worried about whether mixing sealant was an issue. I'll give it a good rinse.

Maybe a good idea. But you will be able to tell if it is Stans (white liquid) in your tyre or not. Also if the old sealant is watery, clean it out and put new ones in.

By cleaning I dont mean you have to remove the peaces of sealant thats stuck to the tire. I would just remove the tire, hose it off and let it dry our before putting it om the new rim and I will also suggest putting in fresh sealant.

Been there, done that. Not worth the effort. Edited by Wil6

Hehehe. Also done that. Had to top up my sealant afterwards because I opened up some of the previous holes again. Wanted to kicked myself.

So you guys recommend leaving all this stuff as is? Should I remove the tacky bits stuck to the bead?

If its loose then its not doing anything and I would try and remove it, but don't go and try and take everything out.

Yes remove the tacky bits stuck to the bead. They can cause your tire to not seed properly on the rim.

Thanks for the help, Hennie. Busy retaping the rim as the old integrated valve tape had torn and was leaking. Going to try the insulation tape/stans tape/standard valve combo and see if that works on these rims.

Pleasure. Its a crappy job but needs to be done. I also need to check my sealant before my next mtb ride. I am thankful to have tubeless rims and don't need to do the tape thing. Enjoy
