  1. Suck it! Try and enjoy your miserable little Bat Outta Hell and Cascades and all your other paltry little trails while we're tearing up THE SPRUIT! By tearing up I mean literally breaking down the rubbish and packing it into bins on Saturday.
  2. Just realised it's the Spruit cleanup tomorrow. Shall we head to Scout Hall once we've done our community bit?
  3. Cool, I don't feel like crashing in today's weather anyway.
  4. Anybody keen for a Scout Hall Saturday? There's less than an hour of light these days if you get there around 4.30pm.
  5. Not until you've given us your manifesto. Your campaign is as late and unprepared as Agang.
  6. This is like watching the Durban July. My money is on Breakfast Break for a late, come-from-behind victory.
  7. Seriously, you guys couldn't have put on a better race. That Enduro left me broken but reflecting on some of the most fun I've had on a bike.
  8. That is damn sexy, cool to see the single pivot design again. Not to sound like a roadie but… any indication of the weight of the bike in that setup?
  9. Obviously I want Min to win but… C'maaaaan, Ratboy! I want to see him on the podium again at least.
  10. I sold a Defender TD5 for R140k a few years back. I saw it on Autotrader the other day going for R160. Don't know why I sold it, that thing was beautiful.
  11. For someone who trains regularly shooting tiked up moving human targets in surprise situations outside of a controlled environment? Because then by all means go ahead. I remember the first thing we learnt in boxing, if there is any opportunity to avoid a physical conflict then take that option no matter how confident you are of the outcome.
  12. Nice outcome for you, assuming there wasn't a guy in the bush behind you that Potted you while you were shooting his mate. Not so nice for the next cyclist when a bunch of Tikheads realised it's safer to just shoot the person before approaching in case they also have a gun.
  13. Yeah, I think very few of us want a nanny state attitude to the use of the park. If common sense and decency prevail then it should be a pretty enjoyable experience for most. There will always be douches, they're not restricted to any segment of society or activity. They'd be successful as a douchebag no matter what activity they took up, they're just talented that way.
  14. The topic wasn't intended to become an us vs other riders we don't like vs dog walkers vs runners thread. My main intention was to find out if anyone else had heard about this since the only thing I've seen is an article in a community paper. I would think there would be a pretty major uproar about this so was wondering if anybody else had additional info. Communities need green spaces, it's been proven to be a major factor in the wellness and happiness of the people that live there. I'm fine for some places like Walter Sisulu requiring paid access but cities do still need to provide properly maintained parks that allow access to all not just those that can afford it.
  15. Fixed it for you, Google.
  16. That's the article, thanks. http://www.northcliffmelvilletimes.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2014/05/NT22KJemmarentiapa_553120675.jpg?4d339e Soon the owners of these dogs may have to pay entrance to walk them in Emmarentia Dam park. Emmarentia Dam and Johannesburg National Botanical Gardens’ regulars might be in for a shock – a walk in the beloved Johannesburg park might soon cost them. “The ward council are planning to start charging entrance at Emmarentia. They’ll close off all park entrances except two, and at those entrances people will have to pay for access,” Belinda Bruce-Brand told Northcliff Melville Times. Ward councillor Pat Brugman-Richards confirmed that it was true. “Emmarentia is a big entity,” she said. “It’s difficult to maintain. It has to become self-sustaining. The idea is to close off some of the gates,” she explained. “It’ll be exactly the same as other botanical gardens in the country – Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, for example. People will only have access to a few gates and they will be charged.” Emmarentia regulars have stood up against the council before. “In 2008, City Parks started putting up the fence to separate dog walkers from the rest of the park. We only heard about it through the grapevine, but we protested. We formed human chains. Thousands of people signed petitions within days. The court interdict that we won still exists,” Steven Kuny, the defacto chairman of the Environment Dog Groups of Emmarentia said. “It would be a great shame if people had to start paying to go into the park,” he added. “Originally, the title deeds to Emmarentia provided right of way to everyone. It might be contravening the law to change that. And we’re standing ready to fight this decision.” The council has discussed this motion, and they are planning to give the public a chance to speak. “We have a draft masterplan to implement. There will be public meetings though, and people will have their say. We don’t yet know when it will be implemented, or what it will cost. We will let people know when we do.” Bergman-Richards said that many Emmarentia regulars are contravening public bylaws. “Actually, I have a bone to pick with dog walkers at Emmarentia. Nobody picks up the dog poo anymore. The bylaws of Johannesburg stipulate that all dogs should be on leashes once they’re off their owner’s properties. But walkers at Emmarentia let their dogs run free – probably because that’s how they’ve done it historically. There are a lot of people that are not in control of their dogs.” Dog walkers and their charges aren’t the only contentious issue at the park. “Cyclists at Emmarentia are also a problem – they run down old people and children and seem to think they have right of way.” There’s a reason the park will have to start charging. “Not many people know this, but City Parks and the zoo has combined – they now share the same budget,” Bergman-Richards explained. “A lot of the money and equipment allocated to the parks is going to the zoo. And the new combined City Parks is considered least important of the city’s budgets. I don’t necessarily agree with this, but it (charging people) has to happen.” “Emmarentia Dam is something that makes the city liveable,” well-known Auckland park residents Keith Knowlton and Jane Griffiths said. They walk their dogs Tilu and Tosca at Emmarentia on an almost daily basis. “People will stop going there. We don’t want to pay daily. It’s a public space, charging at Emmarentia would be like charging to enter Central Park in New York.”
  17. I just read an article in one of the Caxton community rags saying that the council is wanting to close off Emmarentia and charge for access as per Walter Sisulul Botanical, has anybody heard anything about this or is it just fearmongering? Someone had a bitch in the article about cyclists running down old ladies as well, as if we patrol the area waiting for them.
  18. His legs only, Google's still a good few years away from shaving his face.
  19. But he used to be slow and happy like me. I don't even know him anymore.
  20. Google, join us for a Watt Watchers intervention at Scout Hall. It's been too long, we're worried about you. You've started wearing black, tight clothes and you have a grimace on your face when you're riding and you're drinking way more coffee than you used to.
  21. The Hub seems very keen to raise funds for anything these days. We could find gainful employment for them by stationing them in yellow bibs at any jump or obstacle and warning riders with a sharp whistle blast that they need to look up from their watt meter briefly.
