Just a note, if they did not inform you, and excuse me if you know this. But the anodising process is unforgiving when it comes to surface quality. It will make any mark and scratch way, way more evident. If you are aiming for a pristine finish on your frame, it is best to have it sanded, finished and polished, up to a level that you want the final result to be when it is anodised. Unlike powder coating, anodising will not hide any imperfections.

😳 I imagined that the finish would be the same as the sample of the final product which they had shown me. Which looked great, I was there twice and there was no mention of this, 

Is the hard black anodising more forgiving or do you recon I should pick it up and give it a consistent finish?

All though the hard anodising is a slightly thicker finish (we are talking microns here) than the normal coloured finishes, I would suggest that you pick it up and finish it. There is a fair amount of scratches on your frame from what I saw. And if you are going through all the trouble of going through this process, it will be worth it to have the final finish better. You can always phone them, and ask for the owner, his name is Edwin. He is a nice guy, and I am sure he would go and have a look at the frame for you and tell you what he thinks, if you want a second opinion. In fact, that would be my suggestion. See what he says. You could also inquire with them, but maybe they have an internal finishing dept that could do this for you. Aluminium is a b**tch to finish. That is why most of the average everyday things that you see, that is anodised, is brushed. We spend a lot of time on the finishing of our products because of this.

Thanks for the guidance. I arrived there just after 8am this morning and the bike was done. I haven’t completely unwrapped it but from the bits I’ve unwrapped and rewrapped I think it came out well. Joey’s guy, Clement, might have done some preparation before anodising.

Keeping it wrapped as I’m taking it away tomorrow to have new frame pivot bearings fitted and reassembled.

Posting pics on Friday once it’s complete.

Awesome. That looks pretty good. Sorry if I caused any stress. Good luck with the build and looking forward to seeing some photos when it is finished.

Assembly done. I’m happy with the look the hard black anodised frame.
