To all the husbands and partners out there with wife's/girlfriends that cycle.

Do they ride with women specific bibs or do they wear just any bibs? Trying to find my wife some semi decent ones without forking out R2500 for Assos

I saw one made by Anatomic that has a zip at the back for the ladies. Was hoping to get a review or two

Anatomic does women's bibs - still have to try them. The first Ascent ones are comfy. Have a stunning one called Exteondo but you don't get it in this country.

My least comfy one chamois wise is my Assos.

Craft only does a top end in bibs sadly - nice chamois

I find men's Chamois too big for me tho a friend of mine doesn't mind them - she is tall so the men's stuff seems to fit her better all round.

Full zip shirts seem to help the call of nature stuff but I'm not beyond whipping off shirts these days - my sports bra covers enough for decency.

I heard good things about the Chris Willemse ladies kit bib.

I prefer bibs over shorts for riding most days.

I've only ever used mens bibs. unless she is super tiny then mens should be fine but they come in so many different cuts you have to try a few. i use castelli free aero shorts. i have 4 pairs. assos doesn't work for me at all never mind the price..

The Spez brand is also nice with what seems a nice chamois but it didn't sit right for me.

I intend to try the Anatomic one but having looked at the zip it can't see how it can be comfy - I will try tho and see.

Pearl Izumi also does - but didn't like the construction of the bib - made like shorts with the bib straps added as an afterthought - sort of defeated the object of the bib keeping it all in place.

My lady has tried various ones and unfortunately the Assos FI1:13 came out tops. Price wise the white ones can still be bought at CWC or some Cycle Labs for a cheaper price.

Issues she had:

  • Bibs make going to the loo harder, but my wife has finally come around and realised that it is a small price to pay for comfort and safety. Shorts tend to get stuck on the nose of your saddle or behind it when things get technical and rough and that throws your balance off. Also ladies, bare in mind that if you do get a bib, a full zip on the front of your jersey makes the stripping process easier, especially in those go-cart toilets, or so I have been told
  • Nalini ones are good but the shoulder straps chokes you
  • Chamois stitching on the cheaper Assos ones bothered her on longer rides, 3+ hours. The more expensive ones have what appears to be a "double chamois" with the top layer having less stitching.

All in all I cannot fault the Assos clothing. Yes it is extremely expensive, but I still have some Assos shorts that gets used regularly and are 6 years old. They have done an Epic and it's training and are only starting to show their age now.

You get what you pay for, unfortunately
