This is obviously quite serious, is there place for real amateurs to ride?

Most definitely. You start with all the riders in your age category. Let the racing snakes go, and just get into a nice rythmn and ride your laps as fast as you can for the whole distance. Great way to improve your technical skills and getting used to riding at high intensity. The great thing is that the course is already marked so you can go and practice on it as much as you want to before the 29th. if this is your first XCO race it will be an experience of note as it is way different to a longer marathon distance race. check out the XCOSA website for an insight into XCO.

There will most probably be plenty of contestants training on the course this weekend. Wendell should also be there to assist if need be.

I will most probably be there on saturday from about 8am on the course. If you want to join make a turn.

I was thinking that I might want to give this a try, but I might have a problem.

I am sub-vet age from this year, but had to register for a local racing license to do DHi races in the womans catagory, so for DHi I am Elites. Will it make me elites for this too? (Because it falls under "MTB" catagory one had to select for the license.)

I need to know, because my 1st choice is to do the DH race/ride later that day at Thaba and if I have to do 6laps I will die! 4 laps I might just be able to handle

Thanks, but I know the different age catagories.

My question is a bit more tricky than that. Let me try and rephrase. I have a racing license (one can select like road, MTB, track, BMX). I needed one for DHi - which falls under MTB of course. It means that all UCI races (I have only done DHi since then) I now fall in the Elites catagory automatically and not Sub-Vet. So where does this leave me for XCO (also under MTB), is it automatically elites (hope not) or can I enter sub-vets even if I have a racing license...

Went and tested the track a bit, It is tough!!! hats off to the speed merchants in the XCO world.

I now know why XCO is not as popular as marathon in SA, it is because it is HARDCORE!!

Thanks to all who came and did a lap or two on the XCO course. Please just remember, it is still a work in progress due to the rains. The Drop Off will be " Rocked up" by Wednesday. The trail is riding well and I am looking forward to " Constructive" criticism. 80% of this course will be fine tuned for the Nationals in July. I find the 5 km is such a nice race distance and I imagine a lap time of 15 minutes for elites. Therefore the laps should be 6 for Elites but will be finalized by race commissaires.

Trails are marked and you are welcome to come have a go. YOU must check the start times as they are different to the first two of the series....just check it out, first race is at 08h00,
