Input on your Ideal XC Mountain Bike

Hey' date='

The Reason that Saffa G started this discussion, is because I have just started the conceptual design stages for 2 new 2010 bikes, one an XC race hardtail, and the other an XC/marathon full sus.

I am not concerned about components at this stage, just the frame design, so far things like bottle mounts and cable routings have interested me most. I am wanting more spcific feedback so that I can create a better bike for you.

as for materials I am considering Aluminium (yes I am from UK, that is how we spell it) titanium, magnesium, scandium and carbon, or combinatiosof the afore mentioned.

Suggestions you say now may actually become reality.

Thanks,

Keith

Frame: Merida team Carbon, Rockshox Reba fork. ZTR olypic wheels, Rithey wcs handlebar and stem. SRam x.0 gripshift for front derailer and trigger shift for rear derailer. Middleburn two blade cranks with 29/42 combination. Lightest Dish brakes you can get with saddle to would suit your buns. Now thats the ultimate Hard Tail Bike. Small Block 8 tyres with stans conversion kit.

Full suss would be than components on Specialized Epic carbon frame.

o and for those who loose bottle use the specialized rib cages. I will pay for every bottle you loose. Impossible to fall out of cage.

OoO, if you can use Scandium and keep the price low enough it'll be cool. I'm thinking in the line of the Schmolke DS bikes, nice and LIGHT. But they run the cables on the top tube but it makes the frame  / bike look cheap.

Aslo, straight lines on a Mtb frame design is really Ugly, look at Intense, Titus, jAMES, they all really agly. Rather use some sloping lines in the frame like Cannondale, Santa Cruz and the Mojo.

I am a bike designer (big suprise eh!?) haha, and no, as it stands I have no intention of making any road bikes... not yet anyway. (actually the company I design for did make a scandium / carbon road bike up til prototype stages a couple of years before I signed up, that thing is insanesly light!)

KTM definitely got it right with there 2008 Frame designs and use of colour! Perfect!!! See that little triangle on the top tube leaning against the seat post, it?s nice and curvy. That?s definitely the way to go. http://www.ktm-bikes.at/2008/_bikes/desktop_bg/123ScorePrestige_48_carbon-.jpg  /  http://www.ktm-bikes.at/2008/at/detailBike.php?Bike=scoreprestige&kat=Race

The only thing I'll change on the KTM Frame is the triangle on the back, I'd rather use it like this:

Dunno how practial it is but it looks a whole lot better. There, that will cost you 10000pounds for the design:-P
