Is that a weight issues? not directly. The new 29ers use thru axles to stiffen up the interface between wheel and frame. Lots of rear drop outs failed when the old QR system was used because of over tightening to try and remove flex (end user mistake). To get around the flex problem 29er designers made the rear triangle a through axle design. Its a pain in the arse which is why pick and awl tools are now the rage in MTB because its easier to plug the puncture from the outside than to phaff with getting the wheel out
