Geeza Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I've just moved to Mthatha for 3 years. Need to hook up with MTB'ers who know the area and safe training routes. Did a recce early last Saturday morning on a path behind the golf course that turned into a track past some shacks. No problems there until a patch of tall grass erupted with a conglomeration of dogs hell bent on sorting out this trespassing mlungu. There were at least 8 of them. Quite scary. Didn't know that I could peddle that fast. Won't be doing that route again. Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Butterbean Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Stay away from waterfall, near ngangelizwe... Beautiful place, but well known for the tsotsi presence. Don't want to get you down, but spent 6 months there and hated every minute! The road are disgusting... Truely horrible. Good luck man, I'm sure you'll make the most of it though! Try close to the dirt race track, I think it's close to Northcrest/Norwood. Also the ruralish area around Ncambedlana was actually quite safe and may have some interesting route to play on! Now I have lots of exploring to do.Must admit that I was a bit nervous of leaving my car unattended but all was well in the end Forest in the distance Mtata river bridge Great. Starry nights Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I lived there for 4 years. Lovely place and people in some ways but crime was a serious issue when getting outdoors. That was 8 years back so maybe better.
