rock Posted April 19, 2014 Share In theory clothing made in the EU only attracts 20% duty and not 45% if its made somewhere..... *paperwork and rules involved. DJpak
MaXiMuM Posted April 20, 2014 Share Hello~ I would like to ask u something about tax I ordered two socks, one cap and two water bottle from Rapha in UK And I paid them for $118.5 which can be approximately R1300 And I got a tax invoice from DHL they got it from the airport They say I have to pay R837.54 for tax. Is this right? My items value is only around R1300And they charge me over 50% tax. Ps. Late year I ordered approximately R4400value items from chainreactions. And I paid tax R740 (?) What should I do? Recently SA gave me lots of **** experiences.. so sadGonna do this from my phone... Damn auto correct. We do alot of importing of these types of items. And unfortunately, that number seems about right. VAT on 1300 is about 180.00.40 to 45% (depanding on original and nylon quantaty) duties on clothing on 1300 less the bottles could easily be 400.Them the clearing fee, both customs and DHL charge a fee, another 200, plus VAT. Documentation fee, 30 to 50. Sorry dude, that's quiet easily correct.
MaXiMuM Posted April 20, 2014 Share Sounds familiar... I got hit with 1200 vat and duty bill for an order of 2000 off crc (helmet and clothes)... Won't do that again!Yip... That's what you gonna be in for. Helmet, protective clothing/sporting goods. So sporting goods don't attract duties, but SARS always take the higher amount, and protective clothing is going to attract someone's attention... LukePurdon Posted May 31, 2014 Share Out of interest, if I manage to buy a bike frame off e-bay for example, what would be the kind of taxes and duties to expect?
TheV Posted May 31, 2014 Share Out of interest, if I manage to buy a bike frame off e-bay for example, what would be the kind of taxes and duties to expect? About 15%-16% for the vat and admin fees, no tax on frames.
gummibear Posted May 31, 2014 Share Out of interest, if I manage to buy a bike frame off e-bay for example, what would be the kind of taxes and duties to expect? I'd be more worried about the cost of getting the frame to SA.Postage is a killer. RocknRolla

MaXiMuM Posted May 31, 2014 Share Shipping is going to kill. We do it everyday, the weight isn't the problem, but the size...
