Hi everyone

Okay, short and sweet; I am buying me a new frame my current frame is too small. I would like your advice to know which frames will work with my current setup, stuff like the bottom bracket etc.

I currently have a Silverback Vida4 here is the link to the details, the bike is still standard besides the tyres which isn't a problem.

I would like to be able to just almost shift everything from the old frame onto the new one, without having to buy a new BB, seatpost etc. See my post here why; https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/89190-looking-for-med-29er-frame/

Thanks a lot for all the help, I really appreciate it.

I currently have the option of this frame;

Will my setup work on this frame? And what will I have to buy etc.

I am aware that new cables and housing is in order :P

Thanks again

Hi Ruan, the BB is not going to be a problem, but unfortunately the steerer will be. Current bike/forks is std. straight and new frame is tapered. So if you want to run current forks you need a reducer headset, will cost a couple hundreds, so maybe look for another frame, a new forks, cuz spending bucks on a headset is a bit of a dead investment in what you are trying to do.

I checked out the two bike you linked... you wont really feel a difference from you current setup. The shock, wheels and components is what sets the new bike apart.

Yeah, it's not really about upgrading in a sense. More about trying to get myself on a Medium frame, that's the main reason for changing the frame alone. Cheapest method of going up in frame size, I guess.

So everything will work, apart from the fork? Because of straight and tapered? Like braailegend said, you get the reducers that will enable my fork to work on the tapered head tube?

Didnt read the size part, haha... But yes, that bottom crown race is what you must get to convert. Had one to run a straight steerer in trek fuel tapered tapered headset.

Looks similar to this, and put on the fork

So if I get that for the fork, everything will work?

Then I will go ahead and by myself that frame.

Does the new frame come with the headset?

If yes, then the reducer will work.

If no, then you need to get a headset.

So either get one that is capable of using the straight fork or get a taper headset AND the adapter braailegend posted (might work out better if you want to change the fork later)
