Anyone know MTB and/or Trail Running routes in and surrounding area of Vryheid? I'am new here and want to get started on these great natal trails.

Did you find any trails? I may be heading this way to visit a friend in a few months and wondered if its worth chucking the bike in the car?

If you guys are interested I can forward you a cell no. I am 50km from Vhd and know some runners and mtbikers

Thanks, I have emailed the Vryheid running club to see if they know anyone but if you could PM me a number that would be great. I used to live close to Vryheid in Utrecht and assisted with the Balele horse and hiking trails back in the 90's.

You have a PM. Never heard of the Balele horse trail, but I only started horse riding last 2 years ago

I see it looks as though its no longer on the go but the hiking trail seems to still be there. When I worked for Ingwe Mines they used to provide a lot of support (got time off work for it!) but now the mine is no more so sadly it looks like thats the end of that. I was in the town a couple of years ago and its also not looking so good anymore.

Hi

I do not know how to send you the route that I recorded but will figure it out and will send. Just ask anyone in town to show you how to get to Grootgewagt Dam. For a no admission trail I think that trail is the best in the country. And you can just continue to ride through plantations next to the actual trail as everything around there is not fenced.

My dad stays that side and I visit from time to time. It is definitely worth it taking a bike. Just take a partner as you sometimes might find yourself in the middle of nowhere. Definitely something of everything out there. Only one rock garden though. Yipeee

As I suggested cycle out to Grootgewagt dam cycle around a bit and follow the bike tracks. Then soon you will find some arrows and wooden poles in the ground leading you inside the forests. There are tracks right around the dam and beyond.
