I'm guessing you have something else that uses the HRM too? Does that show any reading?

If not it sounds like the HRM (I had the same problem), just take the strap back to garmin and they'll swap it out seeing as its still withing the warrantee period

Try re-pairing the ant sensors again.

Mode / settings / run settings / Heart Rate / Ant+ HR / Yes / Restart Scan

Note that when doing this keep all other paired devices more than 10m away.

If this does not work go to any Sportsman Warehouse. They have a tool that tests your HR belt + monitor. This will be a good starting point.

Yes have them test the belt independently. Then at least you will know its that or the watch. Process of elimination.

have 2 garmin belts and had both tested.the electrodes no longer working on both.what causes this? will just have to fork out the R700 for a new belt it seems

The belt and not the sensor?

That's funny. My belt is 5 years old. Do you swim in salt water a lot?

Do you have a lot of chest hair?

R700 for the belt is ridiculous. I am sure they sell the belts separately from the transponder somewhere?

tthey took off the piece that clips on and put the belt onto a machine with the electrodes tested.that is kapoet.yes i swim in salt water about 2 times a week.no chesthair. they will sell you the belt for R700 and just over a R1000 with the transponder thing that clips on.

as a last resort i will wash the belt this afternoon and see if that does not perhaps help.

Clean the electrodes. There is probably rust build up. Scrape it off and perhaps consider taking it to a jeweller. They have a salty solution with electric currents that they put it in which clears away all the rust.

Its worth a try.

Alternatively when you train, hold your hand on your neck and count the number of beats for 180 seconds. Take the number and divide it by three and you should have a pretty good idea of your HR per minute  ...

Remember next time to drag it through clean water after the sea swims.
