Just had a ride of funny noises coming from the rear hub when free wheeling before a crack sound and loss of engagement between cassette and wheel on a climb. Have this one:http://pedaljam.co.uk/novatec-d712sb-rearhub.html

Is it a single closed unit and whole thing likely to need replacing? Or can pawls etc. be repaired/replaced and avoid a rebuild?

You can rebuild the hubs, there should be a manual on their site that'll show you how it's done. No need to rebuild the wheel unless there's an issue with the hub shell.
