Has anybody used anything like these neoprene guards and is it worthwhile? Do they affect performance of the fork at all? After nicking a stanchion at Thaba on the weekend I'd like to avoid it in future.

I've also found these online but they seem pretty cumbersome. Not that the neoprene is much better but it beats a nicked stanchion on these rocky courses up here in Gauteng.

Are those not just for transport purposes? Not for riding.

They seem to be mostly fashioned as seal savers so I imagine the main intention is to prevent dust and grit getting into the seals but if they protect the stanchion at the same time then I'm happy.

Be VERY careful about getting dirt on the inside of those. It'll cause more issues for your stanchions

Aha that's actually a very good point. If I look at the condition of my phone from the dust getting under the protective case I would hate to see what my stanchions would look like after a while.

Those things cause far more harm than they save. Dust gets in, stanchions toast. Stay away.

Thanks for the advice that makes sense. Pity.

More inspiration to keep the rubber side down, just in case you needed it.

Like all cyclists the first thing I did when I crashed was rush to the bike to see if it was okay before checking my own injuries.

Guaranteed for 3 feet of air!

Yoh. Bru. I'm going to have to cut down on beer for the next few months so I can sort a pair of those out for my Shova. I'll have to print that pic and post it on my bedroom wall until then.
