Best route marker signs and materials for a trail

Any suggestions for route markers that can't be stolen, damaged by fire or look messy and spoil the natural environment (far too many white arrows and crap all over as it is)? We have a lot of slate in the area and I was thinking of using coloured dots (use a stencil so the coloured dot is around the size of a sideplate and neat with no paint dribbles etc!) on the slate to mark the route? I found a whole cache of stolen fence droppers and poles the other day hidden in the veld so we cant use any metal in the marking of the route.

How about stenciling big arrows on rocks? It's very natural...

Sadly these markings are already present in the area due to people doing what they want without thinking about how it looks a few years later.

Go the full IMBA route...go check their website...

especially if you are also considering AMArider affiliation and slotting in to their insurance cover...

Realistically this is not possible at this stage.

We, at the Wannabees Cycling Club are trying out a new vandal-resistant design. Our current A5 size ABS plastic boards go brittle after a while in the sun and are easily vandalised. Time will tell, hope the new design stands up to the test. More news in our next club newsletter. Will keep you posted about its durability.
