Good day I hope I started this in the correct area. I am a mtb cyclist and entered into the momentum 94.7 race on the 16th of Nov this year. That said I decided it would be a nifty project to build up a road bike for the race and occasional ride. The problem is that I don't know a thing when it comes to road bikes. I acquired a Raleigh 4000 frame which aught to arrive on Thursday. If anyone has any ideas about the specs of this frame or any tips for me it would be appreciated.

It'll outlast many other frames

More importantly, is it the right size for you?

What'll make a big difference is to get a bike set-up or fitment done - measuring and adjusting the contact points to suit your frame (body) in the best possible way

the frame size is correct, but after its all build I'll take it in to our local bike shop and have it fitted

With road cycling it is a Q of how much do you want to spend .Shimano Tiagra works fine and I will start there .Fulcrum 7 wheel set works fine and is strong but heavy .You will be able to find a groupset and wheels on the hub classifieds before the event

Your stem length, crank length, seat post type/height and so on will be determined by your fitment 'data'

All the best

thanx guys I appreciate the input. But what do you mean by seat post type? thought its just the length that would matter?

Raleigh 4000? If I'm not mistaken that is a Time Trial frame. It will still serve as a road bike, but you might be a bit uncomortable on it.

Most likely you'll need to get your "build-up" bike to do a bike-fitting session, once it's checked out by your mechanics at the LBS.

bike-fitter would advise you on further upgrade of your bike (i,e: handle-bar, saddle, and crank-arm if it's too long for your specific physique)

read the article written by cyclefit in the forum on the above topics to get some ideas.

I suppose it will be a little uncomfortable but keep in mind I've never been on a road bike so not sure what it should feel like . Guess the positive side is that I'll get use to it from the beginning.
