merida big 9

Looking at a merida big 9 second hand - any views on these please?

 

its really just for general riding, road and off road - been about 20 years since i rode so am kinda out of the trends just a tad

 

either the merida above or a new Giant Revel 29er ???? advice appreciated.

Iv got the 2013(or 2012?) big 9 XT edition and love it. but the giant you interested in is also very nice. Only thing that really needs to be replaced to bring it up to par with all the XT components are the wheels. Otherwise its well spec'ed. Fox shock, XT everything except brake levers and calipers. selle x1 saddle. merida bars, stem and post. merida wheels(which are a little heavy).

I took the XT one for a test and it handled well, it's a nice bike. Stock wheels are heavy though, worth upgrading.
