I've also been battling with lower back pain for the last few months. This morning i finally brought a ball to the office to sit on. Discovered it's a bit low so will have to pump it up a bit but should be ok once done. Here's hoping it works...

i sometimes struggle with lower back pains. it comes and goes.

did some reading and some articles suggest i need to strengthen my core mussels muscles

then i came across an article about using a gym ball instead of an office chair.

the argument is that you are forced to sit up straight and cant slouch - i sit behind a desk 99% of my working day - so i thought this might be relevant to me.

so i bought the ball this morning for R200.

if it doesn't work ill take it home for my wife to use with her yoga / pilates .

will give feedback.

I'd hate to tell you this, my wife bought the same ball from Pick n Pay, with Raleigh branding for R69.00

Back to your topic, cyclists often experience shortening of the hamstrings (over use of the quad muscles), this can cause the lower back pain.

Spend some time doing hamstring stretches, it might help with the lower back pain too.

Office chairs is a headache... or rather back ache. They are never "correct" for the right posture (because its the cheap stuff, or just broken).

Not sure how well a ball will work at my office. Open plan and a playful bunch of people at work will ensure that I end up on my gat a couple of times a week...

The back rest of the chair should aid relaxing your shoulders and neck. Not sure if the exercise ball will have the same effect. I would rather do dedicated core exercises to strengthen my core. I found that push-ups and the "plank" helped a lot.
