MegChem Cycle Challenge

Hi,

 

I want to do the Megchem race in Secunda end Oct but I am sceptical about the safety of the race. This is in Mpumalanga with trucks and potholes in abundance.

 

Do they have partial road closure?

Hi, there won't be any road closures according to my knowledge but this is 1 of our normal routes and is save. There is only one bad pothole section when go (turn right for 50km and left for 100km)to the water towers crossing. Route isn't difficult with about 800m of climbing I think and only 3 hills you will take note of before crossing the N17 by the water towers.

 

We should have a neutral zone until me get out of Secunda according to the previous years.

Hi guys

 

We have hosted this event since 2007, with a couple of different routes through the years due to road works.  This year's routes will be the same as the original (and last year).  It seems that these ones work the best as it has the least amount of times that cyclists have to cross roads, with most turn-offs being either slipways or left hand turns.

 

We make use of local and provincial traffic officers and will have marshalls at all crossings and turn-offs.  To date (touch wood) we haven't had any serious incidents on our road cycling events.
