Contador is climbing, and out of the saddle as we see him alongside Rogers. The pace drops at the front of the bunch and the group swells again. Steven Kruijswijk has 5'25 over the maglia rosa group, a group of around ten men roughly thirty seconds down on the lone leader.

There are around 50 riders left in the maglia rosa group with the break pushing their advantage out to nearly four minutes.

As for the Giro, when do you reckon Beefy Berto (thanks Gen, awesome nickname for him) is gonna pull out?

I reckon his serious about the double. Man wants to go out and be remembered for having done something special. There won't be pulling out unless it's due to a broken leg.

Rocking up at the Tour not having a secured the Giro would be sub-par. And season goal gone.

You think the double is still possible these days?

No actually. The other riders would have to be really pathetic for that to happen.

Saying that, anything can happen and it usually does. Only needs Froome to crash out of the Tour, Quintana to have a shocker and Berto would have a realistic chance going head to head with the rest.

Ja he's serious about the double it seems what with him continuing to race. And it would be awesome to see him do it but my worry is that if he pushes on and fails to win and can't recover fast enough for the TdF his season is over any event. Can't help but feel that he might have a plan for retiring if he does manage to get the double this year. If he can get to the first rest day I think he should be good to get to Rome but in what condition is anyone's guess.

I do. It'll take a special rider though to do it with a team that's purpose built around him and his goal.

You hear the commentator lose his train of thought when the pretty girls doing the jersey displays came on? Haha naughty old man :)

Ja it happens every time, and every time I have a good laugh. . They even give them points.

Another great stage today..

Bert looks fine.. .. maybe not as comfy as always.. but good enough to have it not affect him.

Good stage today, even with an injury 'Berto was strong enough to bridge all attacks by Porte and Aru without even looking concerned and in the end neither of them could dislodge him.

I see Aru conceded he did his best, but simply couldn't pull any gap between him and 'berto.

Tomorrow is difficult but unlikely to effect the main GC contenders and hopefully 'Berto can sit in the peleton and recover, I think they may try and get rid of the jersey tomorrow, but who knows, he might just say "what the hell, it fits good, lets keep it" - with 'berto you can never tell. :D

Unlikely 'Berto will pull out of the Giro unless he is medically forced out, its not in his nature to retire voluntarily.

He also has a better than average shot of winning the Giro and theres no doubt he will take that win and stick it under his belt, a bird in the hand is always worth two in the bush.

I also think the double is possible, difficult of course, but possible, through out history people have always said this is impossible and thats impossible, then someone just goes and does it,...........! -  it just takes one person......maybe its 'Berto?

Well Porte and Aru couldn't dislodge him out the Maglia Rosa today so he defo's has a shot at winning. Very tough he is indeed but remember that the TdF starts in around 7 weeks from now. A lot depends on whether he can make it to the first rest day without having overburdened his shoulder and what medical treatment he's getting pre and post every stage of the race. That should be his and Tinkoff's first concern.

As for the double, can he do it? I believe yes. As far as I can see he is the only GC contender with the team required to do it. Also Berto might want to retire this year or next year or the year there after and I for one get the feeling he wants to be remembered as his generation's best stage racer and that can only be underlined by doing the double.

It just sucks that Sagan might have to give up on the green jersey though in order for that to happen.

Hobbled by a shoulder injury, Contador proved for the second straight day that he’s able to handle the pressures and strain that comes with racing. In Saturday’s eighth stage, he marked his rivals’ moves on the road to the mountaintop finish, and even widened his lead over Fabio Aru (Astana) to four seconds after snatching a time bonus at an intermediate sprint early in the stage.

Thx for the updates Dale.. funny as I rrad the updates I had a couple of oooh bugger moments.

There's concern about the upcoming 60 km TT

Will 'Berto be able to hold his aero tuck for more than an hour?
