Spez Comp Carbon vs BMC MTB

I test rode a BMC 4 stroke on trails while hunting 4 a bike - great bike, fast, comfy responsive but more a XC bike than trail bike. Reminded me of an Epic. The Stumpy 29er was also nice, more trail oriented but the spec I wanted was not available. Went over my budget on a Tallboy LTc and so happy I did. Totally awesome trail bike but useable for just about anything. Pedalling efficiency is much better than expected.

All these bikes suggested here are good. Choose the one that fits best.

Price on the ltc frame, I see one in my future.

I think the frame is abt R35k for the top spec carbon.

Bought mine built up. It has full XT group and Fox Factory CTD front and rear sus, carbon bar, RS stealth dropper, candy 2 pedals, WTB i23 rims/DTSwiss 350 hubs...about R65k.

Many ways to drop the price a bit...alu bar, SLX and fixed seatpost. Can also opt for a cheaper carbon frame (2015) or alu frame to save cost.....just don't compromise on suspension...it makes this bike. Stick with the standard rear shock and put something nice on front. I have the Factory 34 CTD but the 2015 models seem to come with Pikes.

The fact that you call it Spaz clearly shows your biased contempt for the brand.

Your view and I respect it in the end I call it what I want there I only one that I will buy but don't have the bucks and that is the Enduro, that is one mean looking bike. Now that is one bike that stands out from the crowd just because there are not many of them. My first choice when I bought a bike again was a Camber but for the price and the spec it was not worth it and I went with something different and the spec blew The big S out the water based on spec.I was at Concept Waterfall 2 weeks ago and asked whether they do Camber frame sets and I was told that Spez don't do frame sets at all so I stick with what I have for now,so you can't say I'm braised contempt for the brand. I really just don't like the EPIC that's all.

Took the Spez for a proper test tonight in Geelsloot in Somerset West. Now I am even more confused. The Spez handles great. The shorter wheel base (about 50mm compared to the BMC) does make a difference. It feels more like my 26' - which was stolen hence the reason for my shopping for a replacement!

The suspension on the BMC does feel "higher quality) - both front and back.

The brain on the Spez does feel very stiff, but gives you a perception of "speed".

The test BMC was not set up properly and did not have the longer travel front suspension shock.

Stock is only arriving Wednesday so I will wait and have it set up properly for my size.

I am 1.89mm and weight=88kg. I am more into XC than trails. I think the Spez will be faster on single tracks with short/sharp bends.

The Epic will be faster on the tight stuff. Believe me. If you riding more xc than trails, you answered your own question. Spez Epic, the most sucsesfull xc bike on the planet. Go out and buy one.
