Hey guys.

Today I was cleaning out my MTB BB(its a shimano hollow-tech BB) and I noticed that the plastic shell between the caps got damaged badly,so what I want to know is can I put the Crank back in without this piece?

I would rather not put it back without the plastic "inner cover" between the cups. A lot of water collects in the BB shell of the frame, and without this "cover" chances are that the BB bearings are not going to last too long.

Maybe visit a couple of LBS's and see if they have the part from some old/replaced Hollowtech2 BB's lying around.

All that tube does is keep water away from the inside of the bearings. The BB will work fine without it, it just won't last as long if you often ride in wet conditions.

When you've been for a wet ride or washed your bike, taking the seatpost out and leaving the bike upside down for a while will help.

If you are referring to the black plastic tube betweeen the BB cups, then welcome to drop by. I have a spare that can have for free. Bring your bike so we can do a quick fit as well.
