G-man Posted October 17, 2014 Share Event Name: Skyride 2015When: 6 February 2015 - 8 February 2015Where: Moolmanshoek Private Game reserve, FreestateCategory: MTBSkyride Concept: The Race Skyride events are classified as Adventure Mountain Biking events incorporating elements of the following Mountain Biking disciplines - Cross Country; Marathon and Free Riding with a touch of Cyclo-Cross thrown in for good measure. These events will be staged events consisting of a prologue to seed riders and two further stages. The events are designed to be tough and technical. Course designers have been instructed to make use of as much mountainous terrain as possible with stacks of vert using natural features as obstacles that the Skyriders have to overcome either by their technical riding skills or by portaging the bikes up, over, down or through. Portages could entail short rock scrambles or climbs to transition from one ride able track to another. Because of the rugged and technical terrain the routes will be unmarked and teams consisting of two riders will need to navigate by means of GPS routes that will be supplied passing through CP’s (CHECK/CONTROL POINTS) on the way. Are you brave enough??? Race Package consists of: 3StagesBike wash & Lube after each stagePost race snackDinner Friday & SaturdayBrunch SundayRace packWell serviced Check points. You got me all excited thinking there was some actual CX involved.

Am keen.... went to the website though, and could not see details on the race - interested to see distances / elevation etc. Also keen, but not so sure it is well priced. As I understand you only get 3 meals for the entire 3 days, no accommodation and you will be riding unmarked trails. To be honest a "snack" after each stage does not sound very appealing. Details on the Facebook and website are lacking. OP you will have to provide us with more detail regarding the route, terrain and what is included in the 4K rondellas package and what will accommodation set us back. That is if you want to create some interest in the race. Is it the same organisers that did the Letsatsi race near Smithfield earlier this year? I am asking because that was the worst excuse of a MTB race I have ever experienced in my life.

We will be supplying early morning coffee and hot water. We are working to supply riders with Futurelife in the mornings. Post race snack: this will not be a sit down meal as we are expecting teams to finish through out the day. This will be something loke a "boerewors roll or a hamburger" and a drink. If you are still hungry there will be other options to choose from like resturant. Dinner & brunch: these will be sit down meals with a race briefing and prizegiving. Accommodation: Moolmanshoek , provides camping, dorm room and suite accommodation. It will be up to you to decide what fits your pocket or where you would like to lay your head. You are more than welcome to visit our website to find the accommodation links. Package: you are welcome to check the website or facebook page agian for details. It is put out in an easy to read and understandable format. And if you are still not sure what you are paying for you are welcome to contact us on : info@skyride.co.za Route: the routes are still being set and changed to make for a very nice flowing but tough as nails Mountain bike experience. Unmarked routes add to the Adventure racing side of things. The terrain will be mountainous and sandstone, slick rock riding. Big amount of elevation gain and fantastic flowing downhill riding. Approximate distances have been added to the website. And we will have the profiles up as soon as possible. Hope this gives you a bit more info. Look out for our Promo videos comming your way soon.
