Can someone please point me in the right direction? I wear a size 8 shoe. Someone told me to try a size 9 mtb shoe for it is better to wear a size bigger, which I did. I wore it twice. On both occasions my feet still hurt on the outer sides after the second day I cycled. Is it perhaps because of the size? Does anyone have any advice?

Very difficult to say from the little info provided.

What type of pain is it?

Pressure? Cycling shoes tend to be narrow.. If you have wider feet, try on different brands 'till you find something comfortable.

Pins & Needles/Burning pain?

May be nerve related, and could have multiple contributing factors, including bike fit.

I ware my usual size (42) for running/MTB/road.

Hi Pulse, it is almost like a bruse to the side of my feet. Maybe I pull the straps too tight, I don't know. The shoes feel loose on my feet therefor the tight straps. I do feel needles n pins after a while

That someone who told you to buy a bigger shoe is a fool.

You buy a shoe to fit YOUR foot.

Finish & klaar.

Go somewhere like CycleLab and try on a bunch of different shoes until you find one that fits. Then buy it. Not one size bigger, the one that fits Cinderella.

Long term solution: as Crispy said... Try ob lots of shoes, walk around in them and take what fits your feet

Short term: Try thicker socks to "fill" the shoes better so your feet don't slide around and you don't need to pull them so tight
