I recently purchased a sweet old school road bike. i would like to put a flat bar on it and turn it into a hybrid commuter of sorts...single front 9 speed rear.

It has a campagnolo wheelset and  9 speed cassette installed,unfortunately the rear derailleur has been damaged.

 

my question.

 

I want to use cheap mtb shifters (deore 9 speed) and also a 9 speed mtb derailleur to shift the rear, would that work?

any help would be appreciated.

Campag 8,9,10speed is not 100% compatible with shimano and vice versa as the spacing is slightly different however its not impossible to get perfect you just need to play around with the spacers in the cluster.

Yes it will work if you change the shifter and Derailleur as stated
