My daughter had a push bike / balance bike from about 2.

She`ll be 4 in July and has just moved over to a pedal bike - no training wheels.

Push bike teaches them balance & steering so when they move over to pedal bikes it is a fast transition.

The wood push bikes get them sorted quick quick for balance, I'll check I got a small specialized steel push bike, finding it might be a issue if I find it you can take it ,,I'll check in the morning

Exciting times! I still remember when I bought my kids' first rides.

On this topic ( sorry for the hijack) my son is 10 and he rides very well on his avalanche MTB. I want to get him a Road bike. Where can I look? He is just too small for a small frame and I dont want to spend too much as he will be grown out of it in two - three years. What donyou suggest? A 650b? Or must I wait until he is 12?

Wait. Let him continue on the mtb for a while until he's big enough to fit on a road bike.

You do get kids road bikes, but tbh I think it'll be a bit silly due to the amount of time he'll be in it before needing to move up to a normal one.

Thanks for the good advice.
