Both are nice bikes.

A friend of mine has the Scott Scale 960 and he is very happy with it. I think it might be lighter than the Talon.

If they are at a local bike shop see if you can arrange a demo to see which one you like better.

this is like asking if you should buy a red car or blue car, I dont believe that one brand (bicycle frame) is better than another brand, what I do believe though is that different brands suits different riding styles, and its important to buy the bike that suits your riding style, if the parts are the same and the angles are the same, surely the name on the frame does not make a difference? my advise to you would be if the parts are the same, look at the wheels, they make the most difference, if they are also the same, take the one that speaks to you, I am a Scott fan, but Scott does not fit every single rider out there.

Thanks for the responses.

The Scott has a better suspension and the Giant better tyres.

The suspension is making me lean towards the Scott.

You're going to need to change the tyres for tubeless anyway, so don't look at that.

I also think there's a different geometry there which will skew your comparison. The Scott Scale is more racy than the Giant Talon (the Giant XTC is the Giant "equivalent" of the Scott Scale). If you're looking at a more relaxed bike, then the Scott Aspect 910 is the equivalent of the Giant Talon I think (same components as the Scale 960, but slightly heavier frame, less racy geometry etc).
