Cape Town to JHB bike transport

So I'm lucky enough to get to go down to Cape Town this December for our holiday, first in three years!!

 

Anyway, I'm hoping to take the roadie down with me, which is no problem on the way down, as the plush back seat is it's home for that direction. Unfortunately, the wife to be has invited some friends to fly down ad they'll drive back with us. This leaves me without space for the bike.

 

I'm not a fan of hang on bike racks, and a ride on rack is way too expensive for one trip up, as I won't need it after this.

 

So, does anyone know of the cheapest, safest way to get a bike back to Jhb? I got a quote of 1200 from a company thatoves bicycles and motorcycles, but that's also damn expensive.
