Hope he recovers well. Let us know if he needs anything.

Thank you very much. He is currently hospitalised to manage his pain and keep him immobilised. He should be released later in the week. The Neuro has estimated 6 to 8 weeks for the compression fracture to heal.

ITS NEVER A GOOD TIME TO TAKE A TUMBLE, but in December :cursing:  :cursing: that has to suck, lying in bed over December

Is it more of a jump or a bump that tends to buck your rear wheel when going over?

That is exactly what it is. Go slower or take at an angle and make sure you are well back and low. All there is to it. You can see this from a mile away but its the angle of it that gets guys as it gets hold of the rear wheel.

I ride this section regularly and if approached correctly should pose no problems.

Rode that section yesterday but didn't even notice any bumps like that and I was travelling at a fair speed (Not my usual psycho speed as I am still nursing a nasty knee injury and the aftermath of the demonic summer flu). Even double checked my GoPro footage and couldn't see anything. Maybe the rains softened it out specially with the major flooding they had there during the week...

Hope he feels better and is back on the trails soon! Never fun having a tumble like that!

I read the news. It's about my crash. To reply, I've created an account and given myself an appropriate username. Faceplant was taken, so Spectacular Faceplant I shall be.

Thank you good mountain biking people, horse riders, road cyclists passing by, and a good man who drove me to hospital in his bakkie! Thank you eternally to people who helped me on the scene! I'm sorry for the drama. I'm forever indebted for your sensible care. Thank you to the fabulous doctors at the Little Company of Mary.

I'm on the road to recovery. My best mate, Blackbeard, set out the facts. I'm missing riding, but a back op needs decent recovery time. I'm on the clock. Some fabulous stuff planned (with Blackbeard) for 2015. I'm a lucky guy! I can walk and talk and life should return to normal.

I wore a very good Giro helmet. Thank heavens for that. It's the reason my brain still works, although I was knocked out cold. I need a new helmet now. My thoughts have drifted to full-face and I've read some blogs on this site to guide my decision.

Ride safely guys. I love Groenkloof and ride there often. I have no idea why I fell, and I've never considered that a treacherous spot. A sign may help. I don't know. See you on the trail!

Get well soon buddy, I'm glad you will have a full recovery after your fall it sure sounded pretty nasty.

Take things easy during your recovery period and please be patient.

Glad to hear you are recovering and will be able to ride again!! Hopefully you wont be off the bike for too long!

In connection with full face helmets, I am currently sitting on a score of 2 minor concussions for the year and multiple other crashes... (I may be a faceplanter in training? :whistling: ).

Go check out the below forum I started. Its got some interesting info and links to some really epic full face helmets!

Hey, nice to hear from you! You sure didn't look well when I arrived at the scene, so I'm glad your sense of humour seems in tact. Strength in your recovery!

@Spectacular Faceplant, glad to see you on the mend. You got the right attitude and sense of humour (laughter the best medicine).

Happy trails for 2015
